7 students in the 4th and 5th grades at N. Chatham Elementary created a mural!

8 students in North Chatham Elementary School's afterschool program created a mural
with me in Spring 2009. The mural was completed as an 8 x 3 ft. canvas to be mounted
next to the school gym. We learned about creating stretcher bars for canvas, how to
mix colors, and understanding perspective. For the project, each student documented
their journey to school, first sketching and then painting the things they saw on the
way to North Chatham Elementary.

For 5 weeks in January and February this year, I led a mural class at
Exploris Middle School in downtown Raleigh. A group of 11 7th- and 8th-graders
helped paint a cityscape of downtown Raleigh, adding their own memories and ideas of
the city to the 6 x 6ft. canvas. At the end of the class, we had an art opening on
first friday in March and invited parents and friends.
